For my first television experience I was approached with a challenge to make a huge pie. Along with a friend we set about making kilos of ‘salt dough’ this was then rolled through pasta machines, cut then glued to a very large pot. No oven large enough to bake the pie so it was dried and painted to give a baked look ready for the pigeons to fly out dramatically on set.

Heston Blumenthal’s guests were treated to the spectacle of 4 and 20 birds in a pie and, eat his premade miniature versions in a contemporary pigeon pie this medieval feast. Guests included chef Andi Oliver, actor Bill Paterson, choreographer Craig Revel Horwood, Germaine Greer and actor John Thomson.
